How FBA Storage Fees Work
Amazon charges you for every cubic foot your inventory occupies in its fulfillment centers, every month, whether the product sells or not. Standard-size items run about $0.87 per cubic foot from January through September, then jump to $2.40 per cubic foot for October through December. Oversize items pay less per cubic foot but take up far more room per unit.
The fee most sellers underestimate is the aged inventory surcharge. Once a unit has sat in a fulfillment center for more than 180 days, Amazon adds a second monthly charge on top of regular storage. It starts at $0.50 per cubic foot and climbs every 30 days, reaching $6.90 per cubic foot (or $0.15 per unit, whichever is greater) after a year. Stock that crosses a year old can cost more to store than it earns when it finally sells.
Storage fees are a cash flow problem disguised as an expense line. Every dollar sleeping in an FC is a dollar you cannot put into your next purchase order, and the fees compound the longer it sits.
