Antler East Africa Residency
A 10-week in-person residency program offering structure, mentorship, capital, and global network to build high-impact startups in Africa.
About This Program
History and Founding Story
Antler is a global early-stage venture capital firm and startup generator with a significant presence in over 30 locations worldwide. Recognizing the immense entrepreneurial potential within Africa, Antler established Nairobi as its regional hub for East Africa. This strategic placement allows Antler to tap into the continent's vibrant innovation ecosystem and support the growth of high-impact startups from their earliest stages.
Mission and Values
Antler's core mission is to empower the world's most exceptional founders to build groundbreaking companies. They operate on the principle of supporting entrepreneurs from 'day zero,' meaning individuals do not need a fully formed startup or even a concrete idea to apply. The program is designed to transform ambition into scalable businesses, fostering innovation and creating ventures that can make a significant impact globally, particularly within the African context.
Program Structure and Timeline
The Antler East Africa Residency is an intensive 10-week in-person program held in Nairobi. For individual applicants without an existing startup, the program provides a structured environment to explore ideas, meet potential co-founders, and build a company from the ground up. The next residency for individuals is scheduled to start in March 2026. For existing startup teams, Antler offers a rolling intake, providing tailored coaching, networking, and a personalized due-diligence process to support their growth, whether they have an MVP or early customer validation.
Mentorship and Network
Participants benefit from hands-on guidance from a diverse group of experienced entrepreneurs, operators, and Antler partners. These mentors have a proven track record of building and scaling companies globally, offering invaluable insights into problem validation, solution testing, business model refinement, and growth strategies. Beyond direct mentorship, founders gain access to Antler's extensive global network, which includes investors, operators, and fellow entrepreneurs, fostering a supportive community and opening doors to critical connections worldwide.
Investment Terms
Teams that successfully navigate the residency and are ready to pitch to the Antler Investment Committee can receive an initial investment of $100,000 for 10% equity. Furthermore, Antler offers a unique opportunity for an additional $100,000 as a follow-on investment. This subsequent investment is designed to match the next investor's ticket and terms, providing crucial capital support in what can often be a challenging funding environment for early-stage startups.
What Makes it Unique
Antler's 'day zero' approach is a key differentiator, welcoming individuals with ambition even if they lack a co-founder or a fully developed idea. The program's focus on curated co-founder matching, leveraging a diverse cohort of professionals, addresses one of the most significant challenges for early-stage entrepreneurs. The combination of initial capital, follow-on investment potential, and a truly global network positions Antler as a comprehensive launchpad for high-growth ventures in East Africa.
What Participants Can Expect Day-to-Day
Day-to-day, participants can expect a dynamic and collaborative environment. Individual applicants will engage in activities designed to facilitate co-founder discovery, including workshops, team-building exercises, and collaborative ideation sessions. Both individuals and teams will participate in intensive mentorship sessions, pitch practice, and business development workshops. The program emphasizes rapid iteration, validation, and strategic planning, all within the vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem of Nairobi.
